Where to Visit

Visitor Testimonials (507)

This spot delivers when it comes to flavor. Both the carnitas and barbacoa stand out — tender, juicy, and beautifully seasoned. Having the chef personally visit the table to serve and explain the dishes was a thoughtful and engaging touch that added an element of authenticity and connection to the meal. While the main courses were impressive, the other dishes felt more ordinary — pleasant, but lacking the same depth and refinement found in the signature dishes. The cocktails were well-balanced and complemented the food nicely. That said, the overall ambiance leaves something to be desired. The lighting is quite dim, which might suit a bar setting but feels less inviting for a dining experience where you want to see and savor your food. Similarly, while the staff are warm and accommodating, the service execution and interior design don’t quite align with the restaurant’s slightly premium pricing. There’s a sense that something — that final polish and attention to detail — is missing to elevate it to the level it aspires to. Still, for the carnitas and barbacoa alone, it’s well worth a visit. With a few refinements, this could easily become one of the city’s standout modern Mexican dining spots.

Just what Kensington needed! Food was incredible from start to finish. Portion sizes were generous and we were left completely stuffed afterwards (5 dishes for 2 people). 3 appetizers are pictured. The ceviche, sopes de hongos, and the shrimp aguachile were all amazing. The sopes was definitely a highlight, and a must-try for anyone visiting. The next two dishes really made the visit worth it. First we had the mole rojo, which was a warm and delicious option. Finally we were able to try the pulpo, which was the best part of the meal. A very generous portion of octopus, especially when compared to other options in the city. It was cooked to perfection and wonderfully flavoured! I also had the chance to speak with the head chef briefly, who was kind enough to walk me through the menu in full and talk about the inspiration behind each dish. I would highly recommend this to anyone who finds themselves in the area, or even making the trip down for a meal, the food is worth it!

In the heart of Kensington, Casa Morales has redefined modern Mexican cuisine — and it’s no surprise, since it comes from the same talented team that gave us Gus Tacos. Upscale yet inviting, the space is stunning, with service that’s as polished as it is warm. From water glasses that never go empty to fresh cutlery between dishes, the staff made sure every detail felt intentional. Add in Chef Felipe’s passion and knowledge, and you can truly taste the love and thought put into every plate. The Del Mar Seafood Platter was the ultimate opener: crispy soft-shell crab, citrusy ceviche with shrimp, scallops and octopus, and briny oysters that tasted like they’d been kissed by the ocean. Then came the Chile en Nogada, a dish unlike anything I’ve ever tried — roasted poblano peppers stuffed with savoury-sweet ground meat, covered in a creamy walnut sauce, garnished with pomegranate and parsley. It was smoky, nutty, tangy, and sweet all at once — an absolute flavour explosion! The Carnitas were a show in themselves, served steaming hot and freshly chopped tableside. Juicy pork belly paired with crispy chicharrón, tucked into warm tortillas — a rich, melt-in-your-mouth experience best enjoyed first on its own before adding toppings. And finally, the Tres Leches with caramelized peaches ended things on a high note. Light sponge cake soaked in milk, layered with peaches, and finished with a brûléed top that cracked beautifully — creamy, fruity, and perfectly balanced. Pro tip for spice lovers: ask for their hot sauces. They’ve got 3 varieties, each packed with flavour, and they pair so well with everything. With its elegant vibe, impeccable service, and dishes that celebrate tradition while daring to be inventive, Casa Morales is more than a restaurant — it’s a love letter to modern Mexican dining in Toronto. ???????? Location/Service This place is right in the heart of Kensington market, so easily accessible by public transit. There is street and Green P parking around the block, just need to be careful and make sure to obey any parking restrictions. Interior is very modern with a good use of the wide windows to bring in the natural lightning. I'm sure at night it gets more moody, perfect for the romantic vibe. Staff were extremely nice and friendly - I had the opportunity to personally speak with the head chef, and he was very knowledgeable and passionate about Mexico food. I loved learning all the little stories and history behind both the restaurant and dishes. Food I was invited to try a few of their signature dishes, which include mains, appetizers and drinks. Most of their dishes are great for sharing - so great coming in with a small group to try a bit of everything. What I recommend is trying out the Crema Poblana, it's like a great soup starter that's creamy and hearty, perfect for any occasion and weather. Sopes Hongos was also very interesting - using a mushroom base that's filled with distinctive flavours I also liked the Chile en Nogada, which was a representation of the Mexican flag, and the ingredients mashed together was very complementary to each other and it was very pretty to look at! Having only trying mostly just tacos, I never knew Mexican would be so much more and I love the modern twists behind it to make it so much more elevated!

Unpretentious atmosphere, mid-high price point, food was well worth the price in terms of quality and portion size, and happy hour 20% off cocktails before 7pm! We ordered 3 mains: mole rojo, pulpo, and barbacoa. The pulpo was the most tender I’ve ever had in my life. The barbacoa was so tender I could barely pick it up with my fork, and the combination with the tortillas and sauce were perfection. The mole was deep in flavours with a touch of spice, this was a smaller portion than the other dishes. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem in Kensington Market. I will be back for the pork belly carnitas and the soup in a bread bowl!

A true hidden gem, this Mexican restaurant is!!! My father and I had a wonderful time at Casa Morales last weekend!!!! We were shocked at all of the amazing reviews we saw online - and now that we’ve visited, we know that they’re not kidding… this place is fantastic. The flavours of the dishes are SO unique, head chef Felipe is a true artist when it comes to the menu. The whole experience and vibe of the restaurant is very upscale from the start of the meal to the finish. My father and I don’t eat seafood or pork, and the restaurant accommodated us effortlessly, I did not feel like we missed out on anything! We tried a variety of starter dishes, main dishes, dessert and drinks (as you can see from the pictures) and not one dish disappointed. It is hard to pick a favourite but if we really must, my father’s was the Mole Rojo and mine was the Crema Poblano. As I told Felipe, I will be dreaming about his Crema Poblano soup!!!! Truly so unique and delicious… but then again, every dish is made with so much love and attention to detail! They are all plated so beautifully, and they taste as good as they look (which honestly, is the important part!!!). The Grape Salad, which is head chef Felipe’s newest item on the menu, is another standout option - not your average salad by any means!! Everything was just fantastic and we had the most amazing evening. The staff are all so warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, each one of them we interacted with were so gracious. They even clean your table between courses, a true mark of their upscale nature. Cannot wait to come back again soon with other Mexican-food-loving family and friends, to try more of their delicious options!!!

I made a reservation for 10 for my birthday and they were really accommodating and nice. The food here is seriously good, everything is handmade including drinks. Some dishes had a Chef experience at the table which I thought it was amazing.

I have been living in Canada for three years, and during this time, we’ve tried over 30 restaurants. When it comes to service, Casa Morales truly stands out as the best. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with warmth and genuine hospitality. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service went far beyond our expectations. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Casa Morales for making our second wedding anniversary such a wonderful and memorable experience. We’ll definitely be returning!
